So just how much does it cost to get an electric charging station installed at your home? In the following sections, we’re going to take a close look at average charging station installation costs.

The average cost of a charging station installation

The cost of installing a home charging station can be complex, depending on the specifics of your situation. Providing an exact number is difficult, because the type of charger, your home’s electrical infrastructure and additional requirements all need to be considered.

As a ballpark figure, it can cost upwards of £500 for an installation and around the same for the charger itself. Because of this, you should expect to pay somewhere between £1,000 and £1,500 for a home charging station in total.

The types of charging stations

There are two main types of home charging stations. The one you choose will alter the costs of your installation. Let’s look at each of them:

Level 2 Charger

A level 2 charger is the most common installation for home stations. They typically provide a charging rate of 10 to 60 miles of range per hour. This can vary depending on the charger’s output.

DC Fast Charger

DC fast chargers are more commonly used as public charging stations. These will offer a much faster charge in a shorter period. However, they require vast power requirements and are more complicated to install.

In general, a level 2 charger is a much cheaper charging station to install.

Factors affecting your home installation

There are several factors that can affect the cost of a home installation. Let’s take a closer look at some of them:

Location: The location of your charging station can affect installation costs. For example, installing a charging station in a garage costs a lot less than an outdoor installation, as it is simple to access the electrical panel of your home.

I chose SparkPro to install a dedicated commercial consumer unit with six radial circuits, with each circuit consisting of 10mm2 SWA cables to six unswitched single sockets.
